The Conflicts in Syria and Iraq: Confronting Extremism

Ambassador Ford will assess international efforts to end the Syrian conflict and to confront extremists operating in Iraq and Syria. He will discuss problems with and current challenges facing the American approach and will provide an outlook for rebuilding the Syrian and Iraqi states.

Ambassador Ford is currently a Senior Fellow at the Middle East Institute in Washington where he writes about developments in the Levant and North Africa. Ambassador Ford in 2014 retired from the U.S. Foreign Service after serving as the U.S. Ambassador to Syria from 2011 to 2014.
