Orkideh Behrouzan is a physician and medical anthropologist, specializing in anthropology of biomedicine and biotechnologies, comparative analysis of medical professional cultures with a focus on psychiatry, as well as mental health and memory-work in post-war societies in the Middle East. Using both anthropology and Science Technology Studies (STS) as conceptual frameworks, she has combined multi-sited ethnography with discourse analysis in her work on cross-cultural psychiatry, subjectivity and memory-work particularly in virtual contexts such as blogs. Her doctoral dissertation was awarded the 2011 Malcolm H. Kerr Dissertation Award in Social Sciences by the Middle Eastern Studies Association (MESA), and received Honorable Mention for 2011 Best Dissertation Award from the Foundation for Iranian Studies. Currently, she is working on the manuscript of her first monograph, Prozàk Diaries, based on her doctoral dissertation.
