Poverty Mapping Workshop

 –

Institute For Middle East Studies

What is poverty and how is it mapped? This workshop explores what it means to be poor and introduces educators to opensource mapping techniques that can be incorporated into their classrooms. We will begin with a discussion of different definitions of poverty and how poverty is measured by multilateral institutions. Using the example of Morocco, we will analyze the contextual aspects of poverty and the geographical targeting of poverty. Educators will be introduced to free and open-source mapping software and then with the help of the GW Humanitarian Mapping Society we will map roads across the Moroccan Southwest.
