The Syrian Refugee Experience

 –

Institute For Middle East Studies

The Syrian Crisis has caused millions of Syrians to leave their homes and seek refuge in nearby countries. These refugees are employed in unprotected and potentially exploitative conditions in the informal economy. Firas will join us via Skype to discuss his experience as a Syrian refugee and the ongoing struggle to gain asylum in the United States. Additionally, he’ll talk about his experience working with NaTakallam, an organization that aims to alleviate the struggle of jobless Syrians by pairing them with students learning Arabic for conversation-focused classes over the internet.

GW’s No Lost Generation, with the generous support of the Institute for Middle East Studies, will provide a number of Arabic students with free NaTakallam tutoring sessions.
