Public Outreach and Educator Resources

The Institute for Middle East Studies at The George Washington University provides a variety of educational resources and outreach programming for K-14 educators and the general public. We offer expert lectures, book talks, arts & culture programming, educator professional development training, curriculum development opportunities, and resources for educators such as thematic information guides, curriculum materials and lesson plans.

A priority of our programming is to promote scholarly research and diverse perspectives that enrich understanding of the Middle East and bridge the gap between STEM and Middle East studies to cover topics including [but not limited to] climate change, migration, urbanization, food studies, and social justice.

Our public outreach programs are supported by a Title VI grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

IMES also hosts the Washington DC area chapter of the Arabic Teacher’s Council offering professional development training and resources for Arabic teachers in the DC-Maryland-Virginia region, which is funded by the Qatar Foundation International.
